What is the difference between the coolant Motorcraft vs. Prestone? I just noticed that my low coolant in my 2004 Ford Explorer. According to my manual, Ford strongly recommends using coolant Motorcraft Premium VC-7-A, meeting Ford specification WSS-M97BB51-A1.
Many auto parts stores have Prestone place. They told me that there is no difference. Is this true?? Or do I need for coolant Motorcraft to avoid damaging the engine parts or the water pump as specified in my manual ..
Yes. Prestone is based ethylene glycol. Motorcraft FA-M97BB51 WSS sub-A1 is also based on ethylene, but it is phosphate-free and cooling systems are designed around this fact. Mixing the two creates problems in the systematization of cooling
Either use the Motorcraft AF or get Zerex G-05, which meets Ford WSS-M97BB51 A1 and Chrysler MS-9769 specs.
Prestone Universal should do. The biggest headache these days is the large number of alloy components that require cooling to operate less corrosive. Thus, the old green stuff has been replaced by the new pink stuff to make it easier and most manufacturers now offer universal antifreeze, so if you have old and new cars, you can use both.
There is a problem with gelling with the new pink stuff, but GM appears to be the lawyers handling the trial and (uh oh), and has been used for years in Europe.
If you do a full flush - and it may be time for a 2004 - replaced by new pink stuff, and add a lubricant pump for good water seal.
If you're still under warranty, it would not hurt to use the Motorcraft, until they call. Keep the receipt as proof.
the difference is the price
