BMW Tires -? I want to put winter tires on my BMW 525i. The current size is 225/55 R16. OK good 230/60 R16?
It might fit - you must go one to one wheel and test fit it first - but why would you degrade the performance of your car like that? There is simply no logic whatsoever in your selection of the size of tires.
225/55R16 size offers a much greater selection of winter tires, there is no concern about this up your car's performance in the snow with narrower tires will be better, and it will not shake your odometer or speedometer readings, as the biggest tire. There is simply no benefit to the use of 235/60R16.
It is a question of how much clearance is around the tire. The first number 225 is the tire width, 225 mm. 55 means the tire is 55% as large as the tire is wide. 55% of 225mm, from rim to floor. R 16 is the size of the rim. The 230/60 will be wider and higher and you'll need to turn the wheels all the way to the right or left and physically search the area between the wheel and suspension, or other parties. Remember that when you press a bump the wheel travel up and down.
They come close, but due to the design of the guy on most modern cars, the wing is no longer the determining factor if a single tire. The first number in the tire size is actually measured tread width in millimeters. in your case, your original tires is 225 mm wide. The second number is the ratio between the number of first determine the height of the sidewall of the tire. Again 55% of 225 = 123.75 mm from the edge of the wheel assembly to the outside. Thus, the difference between the two tire height would be 28.5 mm or a little less than three centimeters. If my conversion is correct, a little over an inch.
