What is the best time to buy firewood? Buy firewood is a task that many homeowners have to go through every year. For some, this is not always a pleasant experience. One of the biggest complaints I hear from my customers about the firewood is wood that dealers wooden door is still green when they were promised dry. It is a common problem that is not going away quickly, but buying your wood at the right time of year can prevent you from experience this problem.
To firewood to burn more efficiently, it must be dry. It can take six months to a year of green wood to dry. What most consumers of firewood do is wait until late summer or autumn to buy their winter supply of firewood. To purchase their wood at the moment just before the winter may seem like a good idea, but in my opinion it is one of the worst times to buy your firewood for several reasons.
The first reason is, it is a sellers market at the time. It's when everybody is buying wood and demand is highest. Firewood suppliers are generally more active this time of year and it's also when prices are highest. To find or be more inclined to negotiate better prices, it will be cheaper to buy your firewood in late winter or early spring. It was then that most other consumers are not thinking of firewood and timber merchants when heating are short of customers.
Another reason not to buy wood in late summer or fall you will have to depend on a supplier of firewood to bring you the wood is already dry. It would be nice to think all dealers of firewood are reliable enough to have dry wood, but unfortunately this is not always the case. Buying firewood can be random. Whenever a miss this may mean that you will try to burn wood all winter which is dry.
Buying firewood in late winter or spring is not only the best because demand is low, then it also gives your wood a summer dry. This gives you the opportunity to buy green wood, you can usually get a lower price than dry wood.
In my opinion the best time to buy firewood is in late winter or early spring. At this time when demand is low and the wood and all have been dry.
