I'm a Californian angry! How can I vote on California Proposition 1A? I'm a Californian angry! How can I vote for California Proposition 1A?
by Spencer Holly angrycalifornian-com
I am a long time resident of California, I paid all my taxes for 40 + years. I always paid my way and I've never had to use the services of the welfare state, etc., etc. I'm just an average Californian who was bitten by the mess we are in.
So, should I vote for or against Prop 1A?
Prop. 1A (see full text at the end of this article) is a ballot initiative in California that will supposedly solve all our financial problems, and avoid similar problems in future. Of course, that's all pie in the sky, but never the less, each voter must decide whether or not to support it.
It's a difficult decision for me.
My initial instinct was to vote No, I was angry about the situation as a whole, and called on legislators and Governor Schwarzenegger.
I was angry that California is at this point in the first place. It is shameful that a state which has always been presented as having the 7th largest economy in the world, is now on the verge of bankruptcy. And the blame lies squarely on the shoulders of our legislators and our governor. It was their extravagance, and the poor and inept management have put the entire state in the hole.
(And also my jaw couples, the overwhelming majority of Californians American / who worked hard, saved their money, paid their taxes, have been good citizens, and helped in countless ways positive, are forced to bail the greedy degenerates us .. but that's another rant)
It's bad enough that we're in this place, but for months, our legislators have been unable to find solutions, and finally, with much fanfare, they shirk their duty and responsibility, and find " solution "in the form of Prop. 1A.
Our legislators are cowards, and it is not a leader among them (if anyone knows of one, please, please, let me know!). Prop. 1A is the cornerstone of their solution to their "compromise." If California voters do not approve, then the mess fall into their laps.
For them, the failure of Prop. 1A is essentially a mandate to spend even more difficult to increase taxes. And their response to public outcry is that it is not their fault, it's the fault of California voters who did not vote for Prop 1A.
On the other hand, if Prop 1A passes, and fails to solve our financial problems, then again, the fault will be with voters, not with our legislators.
It stinks!
What is an agreement, they win anyway. Our legislators are obviously bright and intelligent people, and obviously they should all be of the same opinion in order to cook up such an authoritarian regime, so why can not they use that same intelligence to find solutions, whatever the difficult?
So where am I now? I'm still on the fence.
Going off half-cock, and make a choice based on emotional anger is not a responsible option. Coolness and reflection must prevail.
I think some people who are against Prop. 1A, assume that if it fails, legislators will be forced to make cuts to solve our financial problems. I guess they figure the state will simply lay off one million workers and cut services, and, hey presto, our problems are solved.
And maybe that's true, but I have not seen any evidence that this occurs, it is, as I said earlier, the failure of Prop. 1A will probably be considered a mandate for our legislators to increase taxes.
If Prop. 1A does not pass, then what happens next? More tax increases the legislature? layoffs of state employees, and the USD.
