To what extent is the southernmost part of Argentina in Los Angeles, CA in a car? I will drive from Argentina to Los Angeles in a few months.
The barrier is the size of Darien. I went to a presentation by a couple on a bicycle from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego (they called the Hemistour) and the gap has been a Darien hand they have missed. They said they had talked with a guy who insisted in the hard, and he had carried his bike on his head through the swamp for days.
The big problem, of course, is to bypass the Darien, between Colombia and Panama. You need to upgrade your vehicle or on a ship or cargo plane. Otherwise, it must be feasible in a month or two. There was this family, two years ago, which led some to Argentina to Dearborn, Michigan, and it is for how long it took. They wanted to visit the headquarters of the Ford Motor Company. Their car was, I believe, a 1980 Ford, Argentina Falcon station wagon.
I could not find one of these sites mileage for America. But here is what I found.
From the southern tip of America to Fairbanks, Alaska, is about 15.500 miles. Read the latest entry on this site.

From Los Angeles to Fairbanks, Alaska, is 3.403 miles.
3403 15,500 miles is less than 12.097.
This will give you a rough idea of how it is. The distance in the article does not pass through LA, but even then there will be a few hundred miles offshore.
It's a hell of a road trip.
Getting your car shipped from Colombia to Panama is about 2-3 K and may take an average 1-2 months to obtain all documents and things filled because there is no actual route between Colombia and Panama, one forest and jungle. Apart from this, Cape Horn, Argentina to Colombia must be at least one month and 1.5 months from Panama to Los Angeles. Have fun, it's one of my dreams to one day also.
