Second Hand Car PartsHints and tips for buying a used car

When you drive a new car showroom, it instantly loses about 20% of its value immediately - which means that buying a car will never be an investment. However, if you buy a used car, you can find an affordable motor at a price that will not depreciate faster than a new car - for buying a used car can s prove to be cost far more effective than buying new buy.

But sometimes we are led to believe that the world of the second sale of used cars is flooded with the stereotypical car salesman, ready to pounce on unsuspecting customers and take advantage of their ignorance of the mechanics. So how do you buy a used car that will not break the minute you drive into the sunset? There are three key places to buy a used car: from a dealer of used cars, a private vendor, or an auction.

To buy from a dealer known second hand car is probably the safest way to buy a used car, especially if you do not know much about cars. Dealers normally test cars for safety and mechanical strength and often offer some form of guarantee. However, the downside of buying from a dealer is that they tend to be slightly more expensive than buying private - even if they are still often open to negotiation on price.

It can take some good deals on used cars at auction. However, the purchase of an auction does not normally allow yourself plenty of time to inspect or test a vehicle - so caution must be taken, even more when buying from online auction sites where you only have a photograph and a short description to go on.

Sales of private cars can be found in local newspapers billboards, and online second hand car ads. There is no shortage of sellers of private cars and this is probably the most common way of buying a used car. Looking for a car of interest, the buyer can contact a seller by phone or email to arrange an inspection and make an offer.

Before buying a used car, first check the current market value of the vehicle you want. There are guides available in most newsagents that list makes and models for almost all cars and give an approximate value in relation to age.

When you inspect a car, first check the body work. Is there corrosion or rust? It is rare to find a car over 5 years is completely free of rust, but make sure that any corrosion is cosmetic rather than structural. Then look at the overall condition of the engine and check the color of the oil and coolant, as this may give clues to the condition. Also check the mileage, ask to see the car book and check on the amount of tax and MOT left on the car.

As long as you do your background research, and conduct a thorough check before parting with your money, buy a used car can be very profitable to buy a vehicle - you take the road without breaking the bank.
