Has anyone here painted their own sport bike rims? I want to paint my factory wheels black blue. Any pointers?
do not paint. This usually ends with flying debris from the road. take them to a place that can coat them with powder. It's like chrome, but with color. parts are carefully cleaned and then coated with an electrically charged powder that comes in a variety of colors and then cooked on the parties. Powder coating is harder than paint and will last longer and not fade.
Yes, pointers? Well, if you do, make sure you do things. That means removing the rims of the bike and removing tires from the rim.
Then clean the wheels thoroughly to remove grease, oil, dirt and even fingerprints. Then use a solvent (safe for aluminum, assuming that your rims are aluminum) to make certain the wheels are really clean.
Then use a primer designed for metal before applying the final paint, allowing to dry by the instructions. Then apply the paint and let dry for several days before reinstalling the rubber tires. Otherwise, the paint will be soft enough to remove the tires are new on the rims.
Finally, when resettlement of tires, rubber or plastic coated tools designed for painted wheels. Bare metal tools may damage the paint you just completed.
Upon this subject. Focus on cleanliness and a good introduction, and the results should be very good. Good luck.
