Stainless Steel Exhaust

Posted on May 25, 2010.
Stainless Steel ExhaustWhat welder would be better to get to work on the exhaust pipe stainless steel?

I try to do my exhaust price shops are so high that I could buy all the pipes mandrel bent steel tube vs. SS aluminiumized they turn into the house and get a $ 300 welder to do it myself and pay the same.

I've seen many recommend a MIG welder for thin materials and things like exhaust jobs. But is it such a radical difference between using a MIG welder to work vs. an over powered one? I can get a wire fed welder Lincoln for $ 350, but for $ 100 more than I can get a loan for MIG box. I really want to get the best for my money but if I can go out with the least expensive and does not have the odds stacked against me with sticks vs MIG welding pipes, it would be great.

So my question is should I just pay more and get the MIG because it is much more suited to this type of work, welding stainless steel exhaust pipes, or can I do a good job with the wire fed welder?

Two models I'm looking from the model Homedepot.com # K2189-1 and model # K2190-1 (MIG loan)

I applaud your ambition! I would go with the gas module ready on the reeling plains. you will see that the implementation of appropriate gas mixture through the feed Goodwill successful. be prepared to make mistakes. I give enough practice to get good ball before actually fighting against the project. TIG is mighty expensive compared to the unit you can use MIG and MIG unit for many other projects of the car, like the work of the body. Take your time, patience is the key here.

I think you'll get in over your head (capacity). You'll probably miss it anyway and end up losing the money you spent because you'll have to take it to the shop at the end. Just pay the pro to do it and continue to live. Even I do not do my own exhaust system.

I think you've read something is wrong or miswrote this question. MIG welding is wirefed. There are two types. Bare with the gas and wire fluxcore. MIG welders that use gas are better and require less cleaning after soldering. Fluxcore thread needs cleaning after soldering. Fluxcore covers the lining hose nozzle you because it is very difficult. Stick welding is difficult to do on thin materials. TIG (protective gas) welding gives the best appearance and is widely used for aluminum and stainless steel.

With steel, you might consider a TIG welder.
